CIPR annual report - Health & Medical Group
The Health and Medical Group held two successful seminars in 2007. The first was in conjunction with the Royal College of Nursing in July to discuss the most effective ways of engaging and communicating with nurses. The event was attended by 75 people from across the whole spectrum of the healthcare sector and was the first of hopefully many joint initiatives with the RCN in the years ahead. Attendees heard from the Director General of the RCN – Dr. Peter Carter and heard case studies from PR agencies and pharmaceutical brand managers of how best to engage with nurses.
The RCN event was followed by our first Group social evening in the stylish No. 5 Club in Cavendish Square. This was well attended by both Group members and guests and proved to be a lively night out for all!
Our second seminar of the year was our second joint venture with the Health Coalition Initiative and the CIPR 5th Estate Group, discussing the impact of the media on patients and patient groups. This event was attended by 60 communications professionals from the sector, who heard from ex Sun Health Editor - Jacqui Thornton, TV Doc. - Dr. Dawn Harper and Helen Garner from the Parkinsons Disease Society. This proved to be a lively and informative debate and showed how popular our ‘meet the media’ debates are.
PR Week continued to support the Health and Medical Group by covering both events and 2007 saw a new media relationship formed with Pharmatimes who we look forward to working with in the future.
Sadly, we saw no new members coming onto the Committee last year so this is one area we do need to address in 2008 but those active members continue to provide a great deal of input and for that the Group is very gratefulWebsite: www.cipr.co.uk/healthandmedical
