Kickstart your career in entertainment PR
The MOBO Organisation is offering a Press Officer work placement in the run up to this year’s MOBO Awards. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work directly with Kanya King MBE and the Board of MOBO, and the ideal way to start your career in entertainment PR

MOBO is looking for someone who will have .....
• A genuine knowledge, passion and interest in music of black origin
• The ability to present ideas and negotiate coverage in the national, music and communications trade media
• Endless ideas, energy and commitment to communicating MOBO’s messages to UK and international audiences
• The desire to put their learning into practice immediately and the confidence to start their career working on a high-profile campaign
This could be an ideal work placement for a graduating or sandwich year student available between July and October this year, or a secondment opportunity for a PR with less than 2 years’ experience who is looking to develop contacts and experience in the music industry.
In your application tell us about yourself and make sure you address the following points:
-
In your opinion, what are the main objectives for a PR campaign to promote the MOBO awards, prior to the event?
-
Who are the primary audiences for the MOBO Awards and what media will you use to contact them?
-
What are the three main messages about the awards that you think it’s important to get across to these audiences?
-
If you had 100 words to convince a busy journalist to cover the run-up to the event, what would you say?
- Describe three PR activities that would form the basis of your pre-event campaign.
Think about how you would use MOBO spokesperson Kanya King and your knowledge and experience of music of black origin.
Also, do your research – we’re looking for ideas that work in the real world so if you uncover any potential conflict of interest or creative differences, make sure you describe how these will be managed. Have a look at previous MOBO coverage and the past awards.
Is there anything that you would do differently this year? Assume that you have a very small budget and will need to compensate for this with your enthusiasm and superior negotiation skills!
Try and keep your appliction to no more than about 1500 words
Submit your ideas and contact details as a Microsoft Word compatible document or a pdf to dawnc@cipr.co.uk by Friday, 9 May 2008
