All the activities you do will be recorded in one of two CPD streams:
Stream 1: Developing your communication skills and knowledge
This is a compulsory stream and you must log at least 40 points on this steam (but you can record all of your 60 points here).
It covers any learning activity that builds your skills in PR, marketing communications, internal communications and public affairs as well as other specialist communication areas and disciplines.
All communications practitioners need to develop general business skills throughout their career, and work you do to improve in this area should also be recorded here – including both personal skills and business management skills.
Stream 1 activities include attending relevant workshops, conferences and briefing sessions, studying or reading books, and completing e-learning sessions or courses.
Stream 2: Research, personal development and voluntary work
This is an optional stream and you can choose to log up to 20 points per year in this stream.
This stream covers all your research and development activities in which you are making a contribution to the development of the profession. For example: research and writing books and papers on PR or lecturing on communications (unless you are paid to do this) and using your communication skills to support a charity or small business.
It also covers the activities you do to support the development of others – for example: providing training, delivering lectures or presentations, volunteer work, mentoring and coaching, providing work shadowing opportunities, or using your communication skills to support a charity or small business.
Participation in a communications focused group or committee, with the CIPR or another body, is also covered by this stream.
