Judging

We are looking for judges. If you are a CIPR member with a wealth of PR experience, and are interested in joining the 2012 Excellence Awards judging panel, please email Bens@cipr.co.uk.

How the judging works

A team of more than 50 judges will review the entries and select the shortlist in 28 awards categories. Your 1,000 word entry will be judged on the information provided, which will cover the campaign or project brief, objectives, your strategy, tactics and results.

Measurement is key to the judges' hearts - so much so, that the chairs of judges will again be handing over their own award during the evening for the campaign that demonstrates the best use of measurement and evaluation. The evaluation section of your entry should focus on outputs and outcomes, and should show a link between your activity and the client's business or organisational goals. In line with the CIPR's commitment to the measurement standards set out by AMEC in November 2010, the judges will not consider AVEs as a valid measurement metric.

At the final stage of judging, all shortlisted entrants will be invited to attend a panel interview with the judges. The CIPR judges are joined at this stage by an additional 30 professionals from disciplines associated with the profession. Together, these expert panels of judges will select the award winners.

What are the judges looking for?

The following winner's case study from 2011 demonstrates good use of measurement. It has been reformatted by the CIPR to illustrate the information that you should provide under each of the key headings. E.g. outputs and outcomes:

'Meet the Judges' events

Two Meet the Judges events will be held in the run-up to the awards deadline. These events are free to attend and will give you an insight into what the judges are looking for. They are an opportunity to pick up pointers to help you draft your entry and hopefully learn valuable lessons from the anecdotal experiences of past judges. Come along to hear some of the common pitfalls entrants make, find out how one past winner got to the top spot, hear the judges' advice on producing a successful entry and discover how to impress the panel at interview stage.
