Award categories

There are 27 PRide award categories in total, grouped into five distinct areas:

  • Campaign
  • Special
  • Individual
  • Team
  • Region-specific

Full definitions for each category are given below.

Campaign

1. Corporate and Business Communications

Campaign covering corporate communications, including business and trade campaigns, which build awareness, enhance company reputation or generate business.

2. Not-for-Profit

A campaign based in the charitable and non-commercial sectors that has successfully communicated its message and met its objectives.

(Reduced entry fee for Not-for-Profit organisations)

3. Internal Communications

Communication with, or involvement of, employees in a campaign designed to promote corporate objectives, whether in the public or private sector.

4. Community Relations

A campaign that demonstrates how a public relations or communications initiative has successfully dealt with community issues.

5. Public Sector

A campaign designed to promote the policies, achievements and services of a public sector organisation to its stakeholders.

(Reduced entry fee for Public Sector organisations)

6. Best Campaign £10,000 and Under

A campaign that demonstrates the best use of a low budget of less than £10,000 to achieve its objectives.

7. Best Sporting Campaign NEW

A campaign that demonstrates the best use of public relations to promote sport and/or a sporting event.

8. Healthcare NEW

A campaign designed to promote a healthcare issue, product, service or initiative to stakeholders.

9. Consumer Relations

A campaign supporting the marketing of consumer products or services in all sectors, including arts, sport, leisure and tourism.

10. Best Use of Media Relations

A campaign that captures the imagination of targeted media and meets client/project objectives.

11. Integrated Communications

A campaign demonstrating integrated use of communications, including marketing, advertising and public relations techniques, to achieve its objectives.

12. Best Use of Social Media

A campaign that effectively uses various social media to reach its target audiences and achieve its objectives.

Special Award - Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation

The winners in each of the above 12 categories will automatically be considered for the Chair of Judges' Special Award – Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation. Note: Entries that include measurement by AVE for any reason will not be considered for this award.

Special

13. External Publication

A publication aimed at an organisation's external stakeholders or shareholders, including an annual report, leaflet, brochure or similar hard copy publication.

14. Internal Publication

An in-house magazine or newspaper produced at least twice a year, aimed at an organisation's employees.

15. Best Digital Campaign NEW

A campaign that fulfils its initial objectives through the most imaginative use of digital media, be it a stand-alone campaign for social networks, video, website, mobile or integration of the digital mix. It can be a stand-alone digital campaign, or one that is part of a larger public relations initiative that is not specifically digital-focused.

16. Best Event

Any event that meets its objectives and is delivered within budget and on time. This could be a conference, product launch, special dinner, awards ceremony, or any other event designed to meet a specific objective.

Individual

17. Outstanding Young Communicator

This award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of young professionals who make a valuable contribution to the organisations and companies they work for and who show considerable promise as future leaders of the profession. Entrants must be aged 30 or under on 18 June 2012 and working full-time in communications.

Team

18. Outstanding Small Consultancy

This award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of a small consultancy over the past three years. Consultancies must have no more than five people working together to enter this category.

19. Outstanding In-House Public Relations Team

This award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of an in-house public relations team over the past three years.

20. Outstanding Public Relations Consultancy

This award recognises the achievements, performance and excellent work of a public relations consultancy over the past three years.

Region/nation-specific

In addition to the core categories listed above, each region/nation has taken a decision to include additional categories below that you may wish to enter this year:

21. Public Affairs

A campaign designed to inform the public policy agenda or influence the legislative process.

This category is only available in Cymru Wales, Midlands, North East, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wessex.

22. Corporate Responsibility

A campaign designed to support corporate values on community, social, ethical and reputational issues.

This category is only available in Midlands, North East, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wessex, West of England and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire.

23. Crisis Communications

A campaign demonstrating how a crisis was successfully managed from a communications perspective.

This category is only available in Cymru Wales, Home Counties South, Midlands, North West, Wessex, West of England and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire.

Special Award - Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation

The winners in Categories 21, 22 and 23 will also be considered for the Chair of Judges' Special Award – The Best Use of Measurement and Evaluation. Note: Entries that include measurement by AVE for any reason will not be considered for this award.

24. Best Use of Photography or Design

Entries should demonstrate how a photograph, series of photographs, or design work has successfully contributed to a public relations campaign.

This category is only available in Cymru Wales, North West, Northern Ireland and West of England.

25. Best Freelance Practitioner

Recognising the achievements, performance and excellent work of a freelance public relations practitioner over the past three years.

This category is only available in East Anglia, Home Counties South, Midlands, North East, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Thames & Chiltern and Wessex.

26. Regional Campaign of the Year

This award will recognise a local campaign that focused specifically in a PRide Awards region/nation.

This category is only available in Cymru Wales, East Anglia and West of England.

27. Scottish Public Sector Team of the Year

Entrants should provide an overview of excellent activity over the past 12 months, including professional developments and initiatives that best depict the team and their personalities.

This category is only available in Scotland.
