Membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations is open to anyone working, studying or just interested in public relations. There are a number of grades of membership spanning the different levels of experience and qualifications in public relations.
For those who are not currently working in PR but are interested in the public relations profession.
- Associate ACIPR
For those who are currently working in or teaching PR (or temporarily unemployed) and have up to two years' PR experience or who have graduated from the CIPR Advanced Certificate or who have not yet gained any PR experience but have graduated from a CIPR-recognised course or have been a Student member of the CIPR.
- Member MCIPR
For those who are currently working in or teaching PR (or temporarily unemployed) and have more than two years' PR experience or have graduated from the CIPR Diploma.
- Fellow FCIPR
Open to UK and overseas practitioners and awarded by the Institute in recognition of significant contribution to the Institute or the industry.
If you are studying on a CIPR-recognised course you are eligible for free Student membership. There is no need for you to do anything right now. Once we have received details from your course leader we will contact you about your free membership.
If you are studying on any other UK higher education course lasting at least 12 months, you can join the CIPR as a Student member for an annual fee of £35 (for Student membership until 30 September 2015).

Open to non-UK residents only.
What counts as public relations / communications experience?
Check our list of communications disciplines that count towards Associate and Member grade.
If you are currently working in PR and have more than two years' experience in one of the related disciplines such as journalism or marketing, you can join as an Associate (ACIPR) and fast-track to Member (MCIPR) as soon as you have completed the CIPR Foundation Award, which will help you to make the transition into your new career.
