There is significant potential for collaboration and the sharing of professional experience amongst communicators working within the education sector. For a start, all higher education institutions, exam boards and government agencies have well-defined communication and PR briefs, although they will be distinguished by characteristics such as staffing, establishment, engagement with stakeholders, and functional relationships - both horizontally and vertically.
In addition, practitioners will develop their approach to the big pertinent issues; be ready to respond to the sort of crises that are prevalent in this area; have real input into, and perhaps manage, internal communication. So there is much to be gained in a forum that shares both the bad moments and the best practice.
Our areas of interest are:
- considering good practice from outside the sector
- using the experience held by members in previous posts outside education
- producing an issues management toolkit
- comparing experience in the area of internal communication
- providing case studies
- raising the professional status of PR with strategic decision makers in the sector
- promoting the achievement of Accredited Practitioner status
- encouraging and recognising the high standards in education journalism through the creation of an annual award scheme.
