About

We are a voice for you at a national level. If you have issues, concerns or just want to shout about your work we are there to help you. Our main aims in 2010 are to:

  • Support local public services to continue to deliver great communications during a period of significant public and not for profit sector cuts
  • Promote the benefits of partnership working
  • Promote the role of council and other public services publications as a cost effective tool to engage with residents and other stakeholders
  • Have a position of the proposed Audit Commission communications performance indicators for local public services.

As well as our annual conference (see below) and awards we are organising a series of regional events aimed at looking at the big issues from a regional perspective. We want to involve you in the development of these events. For more information contact our regional events lead, Rob Webb robertwebb@monmouthshire.gov.uk

Ensuring we are skilled to meet our challenges is another major aim. Training and education from the group is tailored to local public services and cost effective. Second Steps, which was launched in June 2009, is the first accredited post graduate PR programme for local government PR practitioners in the UK, delivered by the CIPR LPS and Manchester Metropolitan University. The programme which is aimed at those who have been in the profession for two years or more, has been redeveloped for Summer 2011 to meet the needs of practitioners across the local public services. For further information contact Wendy Moran, MCIPR, Senior Lecturer in Communication, Manchester Metropolitan University and Committee Member of the CIPR LPS at w.moran@mmu.ac.uk
