New blog space - exciting addition to CIPR website

Paul MylreaI am delighted to be among the first CIPR bloggers to write about 'The Conversation' – which will be launched at our social media conference on 11 April. The Conversation is the CIPR's one-stop shop for great blog posts by practitioners, consultancies, academia and students, from the UK and further afield.

It will mean that syndicating blogs couldn't be easier, as it will allow the wider PR community to find your content, find your personal, business and consultancy profiles, and respond to your news and points of view.

What's more, this is an open community – you do not have to be a CIPR member to take part in The Conversation. Everyone is welcome to register themselves and their organisation.

Happily, we don't need to 'make friends' all over again. We can give The Conversation permission to link up with our existing social networks and those relationships are established immediately. One of the many good things about The Conversation is that you won't need to share your passwords with us. It is, as the CIPR's Social Media Panel say, 'instant social glue'.

The Conversation is therefore a really exciting addition to the CIPR's website - and we want your input. It won't match Facebook for functionality or LinkedIn for seeing who's connected to whom, but it is the first platform of its kind provided by a professional body. We hope you'll jump in, and work with us as we iron out the inevitable glitch or two.

Following the successes of the CIPR social media panel – CIPR TV, 'Social Summer' events in 2010 and 2011, social media measurement guidance and input to ASA regulation – it's apt that The Conversation will be launched at the CIPR's social media conference. We hope to see you there.

This sounds like a great opportunity to find and share interesting content within the PR community.

I've only recently started my own blog, so it will be beneficial to me (and many others, I'm sure) to be able to find relevant content and blogs all in one place.

I look forward to hearing more and being part of The Conversation soon!

Good news. Glad it's an open shop; I find the best online forums are often those which attract practitioners from all over the world, it's really interesting to see how we all do things differently and learn from other cultures / influences.

Hi, thanks for the positive comments. And there's quite a few blog posts out there covering the news too, which is great. I would add that The Conversation is definitely not going to be a "social network"... as Paul Mylrea writes, this is no Facebook or LinkedIn. This is a content aggregator that stimulates the conversation, and the sharing of news, insight and polemic :-)

Kudos to the CIPR on launching what appears to be an excellent and innovative network for relevant industry content. PRSA wishes you the best in this new endeavor, and we would be happy to contribute and share in the insightful global conversation that The Conversation will surely engender.

Well done CIPR for another first. This will be an excellent way for everyone to keep in touch with latest developments in communications and public relations practice around the world.

Paul
I think this is a great initiative. But can we have some transparency over the hosting of the site? Answers to the following 3 questions would help...
1.Who are the directors of Social Professional Ltd and how did they get selected?
2. Who decides on the advertising and what revenue does CIPR get from this?
3. Who decided which blogs that pre-dated the launch were syndicated into this space?
Thanks
Sean
