It's a lively PR profession in 2010. We have the Inconvenient PR Truth campaign against 'PR pollution', which has generated huge debate, for, against and all shades in between. Personally, I think there is value in the conversation Adam Parker and his campaign cohorts have started. The sign of a mature profession is that we can discuss such issues, recognise that best practice exists but also understand how we can do better. So, the CIPR will be hosting a working session with practitioners, media, bloggers and campaign founders to develop guidelines for practitioners that complement our current Code of Conduct. The guidelines should be crafted by practitioners and media with the goal of encouraging best practice.
Next up was a warning shot from David Cameron on lobbying, and with impeccable timing the CIPR Government Affairs group hosted a debate on 'The Future Regulation of lobbying'.
Another issue to chew: the right2link campaign and petition is going from strength to strength in its bid for linking to be protected now and in the future by making sure links are kept separate from copyright material. It has over 1,100 signatures now, including mine and our Immediate Past President Kevin Taylor. Do take a look.
For those who read my previous post on the CIPR's mission and vision, the issues we are working on above are perfect examples of what the Institute is here for. On we go...
Jay O'Connor, CIPR President 2010
