The Rt Hon Lord McNally – recipient of 2011 President's Medal

Paul Mylrea, the CIPR President, has awarded the 2011 President's Medal to the Rt Hon Lord McNally, Minster of State for Justice and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords. The Medal was presented on Wednesday 7 December at the CIPR.

As well as having had a long and celebrated career in both public service and public relations, Lord McNally served as an advisor to the Foreign Secretary, James Callaghan during the conflict in Cyprus in 1974. He was also head of the Prime Minister's political office during Callahan's tenure in Downing Street. Lord McNally joined Hill and Knowlton as Director of Public Affairs in 1987, before moving to a similar position at Shandwick Public Relations, subsequently becoming Vice President. He was appointed the leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords in 2005.

I am delighted and deeply honored to be awarded the President's Medal. To be given this kind of recognition from the CIPR, an institution I have been involved in for a long time and for which I have a tremendous amount of respect, means a great deal.

As well as a distinguished career in public service, Lord McNally is also an outstanding servant of the Public Relations profession. He has been a member and Fellow of the CIPR for over 20 years and has a unique insight into the industry, which he always conveys with wit and wisdom.
