Amendments to CIPR Regulations

At the CIPR Council meeting on 30 June, it was resolved to amend Charter Regulation 26 (by-law 34), which governs the selection of the Executive Board of the Institute.

The change will enable Council to select members of the Executive Board by election rather than ratification at the first meeting of Council in each year. This notice informs members of the change to Regulation 26 (1) from:

At its first meeting in each year the Council shall appoint an Executive Board consisting of the Honorary Officers, four elected Members of the Council, the Director-General and his Deputy. The Executive Board may co-opt any number of Fellows or Members as additional members, provided that they may exercise no voting rights at meetings of the Board. The chairmen of the executive Standing Committees shall be members of the Executive Board either as appointed or co-opted members.

To:

(a) At the last meeting in each year or at another date before 31 December to be agreed by the Council, the Council shall elect by ballot from the current Council up to six members to serve on the Executive Board along with the President, Past President, President Elect, the Treasurer and the Director-General (Chief Executive). The Council may, prior to the election and the call for nominations, determine if one or more of the six elected posts should have a specific remit, including chair of a standing committee.
(b) Nominees for election to the Board must be proposed by a member of Council and provide a statement of their experience and skills for circulation to Council 14 days before the ballot.
(c) The members so elected will serve for one year (1 January to 31 December) and have full voting rights on the Board.
(d) Should any elected Executive Board member resign for whatever reason before the year is completed, the Council may, by ballot or nomination from its membership, appoint a replacement at that time.
(e) The Executive Board may co-opt other members with the agreement of Council.
