Policy & resources

The CIPR's policy team supports the professional interests of our members and practitioners through research and the publication of guidance on a range of important issues. We monitor developments within Government and the broader economy and seek to engage opinion leaders in our activities. For example, the ongoing campaign to inform members about the Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA) and the creation of the United Kingdom Public Affairs Council (UKPAC).

2011/2012 policy agenda

  • Best practice guidance - committed to developing best practice guidance that underpins and informs the profession.
  • Ethics – promote understanding of ethical issues and guidelines, ensuring integration into all CIPR activities alongside the CIPR Code of Conduct, and maintaining a robust disciplinary process.
  • The Value of Reputation – Guidance on Reputation and the Board and the CIPR IoD Annual Prize: PR Director of the Year is our effort to help practitioners communicate the value of what we do.
  • Diversity – The Diversity Working Group will hold a series of events in 2011 to identify opportunities for positive and lasting change to diversity in PR.
  • Social Media – Our dedicated social media panel works across the CIPR to identify new opportunities. In 2011 they plan to publish social media measurement guidance and update the social media best practice guidelines. CIPRTV, a series of live interviews with leading practitioners will be aired every month in 2011.
  • Research – we have established a Research and Development Unit (R&DU) to create a hub for industry and academic research. Dr Jon White's Future of PR 2020 research, which began in July, will be the first research project from the R&DU. The CIPR annual State of the PR Profession Survey will be carried out in the autumn by ComRes to provide members and the wider profession with a valuable snapshot of the UK PR profession.
