Education Department
The CIPR’s Education Policy department has direct responsibility for
- Building and maintaining solid relationships with UK universities and
colleges that provide public relations degree programmes. Ensuring strong
links between academics and the practitioners, so that a ready platform to
exchange ideas and intelligence exists.
- The approvals of under- and postgraduate public relations and
communication management degrees. This is a rigorous process which ensures
that UK PR courses have the content, standards, structure and support
systems in place to deliver excellent education to students. Not all PR
courses in the UK are CIPR approved.
- The annual CIPR academic conference. These events are run in association
with CIPR approved courses. The academic conference plays an important role
in being the interchange for the two communities of academia and industry
and features a mix of theoretical and practical papers that demonstrate the
growing body of knowledge in PR and the multidisciplinary nature of the
subject.
- Undertaking and/or championing applied research into topics and themes
that will advance the standing of public relations studies in the social
sciences. The CIPR has in the past supported doctoral research deemed to be
of value to the industry and has funded research projects carried out by
research centres and universities.
- Working with partners in government, interest groups and educational
institutions to create awareness of the public relations discipline. To
achieve these aims, the CIPR will liase and lobby relevant stakeholders.
As the demands of the working environment in public relations and integrated
communications constantly shift and change, the public relations profession must
be responsive and adaptable. The CIPR’s educational policies will therefore
adopt a flexible approach and will evolve according to the needs of industry.
