Role of education
The CIPR is committed to enhancing professional standards in public relations
through the emphasis on education, training and lifelong learning initiatives in
our strategy. For more details of the CIPR strategy please click

Our main objectives are to
- To lead the public relations profession and to provide
the best possible range of services and support to our members.
- To advocate the highest standards of ethical public
relations practice, ensuring that our members are equipped with the
necessary skills to achieve them
- To promote the profession externally recognising the
obligations created by the grant of a Royal Charter in February 2005.
Education plays an important role in ensuring that our members become
qualified and have opportunities to further develop their professional
understanding of public relations and communication management, both as an
academic subject and a practical discipline.
To this effect, the CIPR is involved in several initiatives to help promote
the value of formal and informal education in public relations. These are:
- To provide all CIPR members with the ability to update
their professional knowledge and skills via Developing Excellence, the
CIPR’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme. Currently, all
members at professional grade can work towards ‘CIPR Accredited
Practitioner’ status. There are plans to introduce a higher level, the
‘CIPR Chartered Practitioner’ status and the CIPR is working with the Privy
Council and other professional bodies to implement this.
- To provide PR practitioners with access to higher
learning via the CIPR Advanced Certificate and postgraduate Diploma. These are
industry recognised professional qualifications aimed at working practitioners
interested in gaining knowledge about public relations, communications and
business theories to support their understanding of the practice.
These two initiatives are handled by the CIPR qualifications and awards
team. For more information, please visit the Qualifications section on this
website.
