| 26 April 2007 | Is Diversity Working for You?This event was not a 'soft issues' discussion. Delegates debated why being more open to diversity is good for business in construction and property. Topics raised included how a positive approach to diversity impacted on recruitment, strategic positioning, winning public and private sector work, supply chain management and ethics. We discussed what diversity is really about, the changing demographics we must be aware of, the legal situation, CIPR guidelines and communication challenges. Guest Speakers included Judy Greevy, a leading Consultant with over 20 years’ experience in the diversity arena, and Rob Willock, Group Editor at Personnel Today, and former Editor of Contract Journal. From a journalistic perspective Rob offered some challenging views on diversity with respect to the construction and property sectors, and from his experience of diversity practice, both good and bad, in other sectors. |

| 19 April 2007 | From Wikis to BrickiesFollowing a rash of video nasties and building site stunts on YouTube, social media is making headlines in the construction and property industry. But social media is a constantly evolving area and still a mystery to many. PR professionals need to understand these new communication tools and the implications they have on our industry, as well as knowing how to approach social media in a responsible and ethical way - and what to do when something goes wrong. CAPSIG explored the weird and wonderful world of astroturfing, blogs, wikis and podcasts, and what constitutes best practice in social media. We looked into the impact of social bookmarking sites, social networking sites and content sharing as a source of stories for the trade press, and the legal and professional reasons for the recent introduction of new social media guidelines by the CIPR . Guest Speakers included Francis Ingham, Head of Policy at the CIPR, plus Neil Gerrard, Reporter, and Justin Stanton, Deputy Editor, Contract Journal. Neil and Justin gave a fascinating insight into the way social media is shaping the news and is giving them some great scoops! Download their presentation. |
