CIPR Public Relations Centre - Members' Rooms

This section contains information relating to the member facilities at the CIPR Public Relations Centre.

Welcome to the CIPR Public Relations Centre

This note describes the facilities for members. Please ask a member of reception staff if you have any queries. We welcome your feedback: if you have any suggestions/comments on the Centre, please use the comment forms provided or email Richard George, Head of Office Services (RichardG@cipr.co.uk).

Members' Rooms (on first floor overlooking the Square)

Two inter-connected rooms are open without charge between 9am and 6pm on weekdays, with easy seating, newspapers, TV, water, coffee and tea at a nominal charge (all charges will go to charity), three computer terminals and wi-fi. These rooms can accommodate approximately 20 members at a time.

Members will be able to bring up to two non-member guests. Seats cannot be reserved and the facilities are intended for short visits.

A third inter-connecting room, with a conference table that will seat up to ten people, is on the same floor and can be hired by members for private business, meetings etc. The fee is £50 per hour. When not hired out, the room will be open for all members to use freely.

The CIPR reception team handles bookings for this room. Contact Reception on tel: 020 7766 3333 or email reception@cipr.co.uk.

Library (4th floor)

The library, available freely for use by members, is reached by the lift to 3rd floor and then stairs. The library is not attended (but is monitored by CCTV) so any staff assistance in using the library should be pre-booked if possible through Reception - tel: 020 7766 3333.

Cloakroom facilities

A Cloakroom is provided on the Ground Floor and all large bags must be deposited there. Toilets for members are on the Lower Ground Floor.

Arriving at the Centre

Members will be asked on arrival at the Public Relations Centre to show a current CIPR membership card. All members and guests will be asked to sign in and will be given a badge to wear during their visit to the Centre. It is essential that badges are worn at all times for security purposes and to encourage networking. A member without their current membership card will have their membership status validated at reception. This may take a few minutes.

Opening hours

Hours of opening are usually 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, excluding bank and public holidays, and occasional periods as notified on the CIPR website or on notices in the building.

Equipment

Mobile phones, laptops etc are welcomed as the member facilities are intended to be for working use; but please do not use these in staff working environments such as the reception area or in a way that disturbs other members.

Members using one of the three CIPR laptops available for free hire from reception will be asked to deposit a credit card or passport as security. Selected mobile phone chargers for the more popular makes are available in the Members' room for recharging your phone during your visit. Photocopying and other facilities will be chargeable and payable by cash in advance. There are no facilities for printing. Members can access the internet using wi-fi in the members' rooms – detailed instructions on connecting to this are available.

We regret that there are no IT staff on site (CIPR contracts out its IT support) and we cannot therefore offer members help with problems with their own equipment.

There are no public telephone facilities in the Members' rooms.

Food and drink

A nominal charge of £1 will be made in an ‘honesty box' for self-service of coffee and tea etc. The proceeds will be divided between IPRovision and a charity nominated each month by a member.

Out of consideration for your fellow members, food is not permitted in the Members' room. Reception can advise on local restaurants and sandwich shops.

Staff

The lower ground, second and third floors are used exclusively by staff. Members and other visitors are welcome to make appointments to visit and meet with staff. Prior appointments 48 hours in advance are requested. It will often be possible to meet with someone from the Events, Qualifications and Membership teams between 9.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday without an appointment, but not necessarily with specific team members.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in any part of the building, including the portico – please cross the road to the park if you wish to smoke.

Hire of public rooms

Members can hire the prestigious public rooms on the ground floor (the St James's Theatre Room and the Charter Room) and at the rear of the first floor (Sir Stephen Tallents Room) for themselves or clients at special discounted member rates (further discounted for CIPR groups). The rooms are suitable for a variety of formal and informal occasions such as drink receptions, networking events, presentations etc. The rooms will mostly be available for hire during the evenings and weekends. They will also be available during the day at times when there is no CIPR training taking place.

Availability of dates for room hire can be checked with Reception at tel: 020 7766 3333 or email reception@cipr.co.uk . For more information on the hire of public rooms, see the Venue hire page.

The St. James's and Sir Stephen Tallents Rooms can each take a maximum of 50 theatre style, while the Charter Room can take a maximum of 30 theatre style.
