Please note, this page aims only to provide a short summary.
Please go on to read the fuller details provided on this section of
the website.
The Advanced Certificate is a part-time, vocational PR
course, which gives students a solid grounding and understanding of
PR theory and practice to develop as effective and efficient
professionals. It is a qualification in its own right, but also
prepares students for the CIPR Diploma, the major vocational
qualification for membership of the Institute.
The Advanced Certificate is taught as a part-time course and, as
such, is ideal for those in full-time employment.
The Advanced Certificate is for you if:
- You are interested in pursuing a career in PR
- You have been working in the PR industry at fairly junior
levels for at least two years

Certificate enrolment criteria.
Advanced Certificate graduates can become Associate Members
of the CIPR and go on to study the CIPR Diploma. Advanced
Certificate graduates with three years' experience in PR will be
eligible for full membership.
The CIPR Advanced Certificate is accredited by the Qualifications
and Curriculum Authority.
It is provided in partnership with City
& Guilds - the UK’s leading provider of vocational
qualifications - and is awarded as a joint certificate. CIPR
continues to set the syllabus, the assessment exercises, and sets
the level of the award.
That level is now recorded as being at
National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 5, which is set and
assessed at the same standard as an ordinary first degree.
Venues, dates and fees
There are two intakes per year - one in the Autumn and one in
January - and the course lasts for approximately 12 months. Actual
teaching time is approximately eight days (48 hrs), the rest is
project work and assignments.
The course is taught at various venues throughout the UK, including centres in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol,
Cambridge, Edinburgh, Guildford, Kent, Leeds and London.
There are also a number of overseas centres.
Some venues teach on either Fridays or Saturdays (approximately one
session per month), on Saturdays only or over two weekdays. Cost
varies according to venue.
