The CIPR's policy team seeks to be the eyes, ears and voice of the UK public relations profession, in support of the professional interests of our members and practitioners, through research and the publication of guidance on a range of important issues. We monitor developments within Government and the broader economy and seek to engage opinion leaders in our activities, such as the on-going campaign to inform members about the NLA (Newspaper Licensing Agency) and the creation of the UKPAC (United Kingdom Public Affairs Council).
We have an ambitious agenda for 2010, details of which are below, and we welcome your input and suggestions on issues of importance to the profession.
2010 policy agenda
- Measurement and Evaluation – we will shortly be updating guidance for members and the profession on planning, research and evaluation. The CIPR was represented at the most recent AMEC Conference where the Barcelona Principles were agreed.
- Research and Statistics – the development of guidance and training on best practice on the use of statistics and research to underpin and inform PR campaigns.
- Ethics – promote understanding of ethical issues and guidelines, ensuring integration into all CIPR activities alongside the CIPR Code of Conduct, and maintaining a robust disciplinary process.
- The Value of Public Relations – through our work on measurement and evaluation and contribution to a range of initiatives such as the Barcelona Principles and the Stockholm Accords, the CIPR is at the forefront of efforts to help practitioners communicate the value of what we do.
- Procurement – updating our previous procurement guidance and training, to offer advice on how each step of the procurement process should be handled for optimum results.
- Diversity – The CIPR is working towards the development of a Diversity and Inclusion Charter, based on concrete actions identified by the newly established Diversity Working Group, whose goal is to improve the profession's scorecard in this area.
- Social Media – A dedicated social media panel has been established to work across the CIPR to identify new opportunities, including social media measurement, publishing best practice social media guidelines, informal workshops to engage our members with experts and a series of interviews with some of the world's leading social media thinkers and practitioners.
