Join us at The Mix in Stowmarket for our annual conference. We will examine current and best practice within the PR and communications industry including examples of social, digital, planning, evaluation and measurement from within our region.

Speaker bios

Anne-Marie Blake, Co-Founder, True

Ann-Marie Blake has over 25 years of experience in communications where she’s worked both in-house and as a consultant for firms including NatWest, HSBC and Barclays. She co-founded True a Strategic Communications consultancy earlier this year. Ann-Marie is a Chartered PR Practitioner and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer on the IABC International Executive Board. Ann-Marie is a founder member of the PRCA Race & Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB) which exists to create proportional racial equity within the PR and communications industry.


Andrew Stronach, Head of External Relations, Quadram Institute
Andrew leads the team responsible for building the reputation of the Quadram Institute on the Norwich Research Park and for supporting public engagement for the institute.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen with an MA (Hons) in English, his first career was as a news journalist on daily newspapers before moving into public relations more than 20 years ago. He started his public relations career with Aviva and then Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Money. After five years in financial services, he went on to spend 10 years heading up an award-winning communications team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. He joined the Quadram Institute in late 2019 from his previous role as Head of Corporate Communications at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Andrew is a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner and a full member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
 

Steven Shepperson-Smith
Steven is President of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, as well as being a Fellow of the Institute and a Chartered PR Practitioner. Steven is Vodafone Group's PR lead for Africa, charged with raising the profile of its portfolio of telecom brands - including Vodacom and Safaricom - and products - including Vodacom Financial Services and M-PESA, the continent's leading fintech platforms - to the international community. Steven also manages Vodafone Group's international reputation management programme. Steven has worked in PR for over two decades including senior management roles both in-house and in agency.


Gemma Pettman
Gemma helps organisations connect with their communities by improving how they communicate. She has more than 20 years’ experience of not-for-profit PR, working with public sector organisations, charities, social enterprises and membership organisations. Gemma began her career in local radio news before ‘swapping sides’ and joining a busy police press office. From there, she moved into the charity sector, initially in-house and later as a freelancer. Gemma became Chartered in 2020 and volunteers on the CIPR’s Not-for-Profit Committee.
 

Ruth Jackson, Chair CIPR EA
Ruth is a senior Chartered Marketing Communications professional who is passionate about delivering strategic value for businesses. Currently Campaigns and Communications Manager at Christian charity Stewardship, she has over 25 years' experience across a range of sectors, including higher education, technology and the arts, both B2B and B2C. Ruth is a Council Member for the CIPR, Chair of the CIPR's East Anglia Committee and a Community Governor for Chesterton Community College. Key areas of expertise: strategic thinking, integrated marketing communications, creative problem-solving and effective leadership. 
 

Chiara Ceci
Chiara PhD Chart.PR MCIPR Director, Science Communication and Engagement - Discovery Sciences, AstraZeneca R&D. Chiara is a naturalist, science communicator and PR professional with experience in higher education, private and not-for-profit scientific sectors.


Lingyu Wu
Lingyu Wu is both a Chartered Marketer and Chartered PR practitioner. Currently the Multimedia Editor at the Royal Society of Chemistry, she describes herself as a strategic storyteller and creative multimedia producer. She also volunteers with the CIPR E Anglia Committee and the Cambridge Chinese Community Centre as their Communications Lead.
