When did you join the committee? 2020

Why did you join? I was only going to help out with the AGM that year for a couple of weeks and somehow never left!

How long have you worked in health comms/PR? Since 1988, although sometimes it feels like just yesterday, always something new to learn.
Your new best friend knows nothing about health communications or PR, how do you describe your job to them in ONE sentence? Like spinning an endless series of fascinating plates, each of which has something amazing to share with the world about the incredible human body and how it can stay healthy.

2025 predictions for health comms/PR? There are three things I hope will make an impact this year. First, we as PR practitioners will all become much more comfortable with the AI tools at our disposal and really start pushing where they can take us creatively in health campaigns. Second, after the election super-cycle last year, while there seems to be currently a lot of inflammatory rhetoric in public discourse in many countries, in the words of the old phrase “This too shall pass” - and more thoughtful solutions to issues like healthcare funding and social care will emerge. Finally, with the UK returning to the Horizon Europe scheme for science and innovation funding last year, I hope the public will get to learn more (through our members’ fantastic communications programmes of course) about what a great place the UK is to conduct science and the incredible innovations our scientists are pioneering in health and medicine.
