Meet the Committee – Adeeba Hussain

Age: 53
Location: Lancashire

What are your interests?
Being creative through art and sewing.  A newfound interest in walking in the countryside.

What sets your heart on fire?
Time with my sisters and daughters.  Workwise, a project that I can see through from idea - execution to impact.

How did you get into PR?
I joined a communications team which was part of the education department in the local council.  One of my main successes was to launch a weekly newsletter targeted at schools with news from the education authority.  I was an editor: writing, sourcing and designing content – eventually moving into writing press releases and working on PR projects.

What do you love most about PR?
In my current role as an internal communications practitioner, I am the conduit between organisations and their employees.

What PR campaign or project are you particularly proud of?
It’s hard to pick one single campaign.  However, I am particularly proud of being able to impart my knowledge, skills and experience when I deliver measurement and evaluation training to Internal communications peers.

If you weren’t in PR, what could you see yourself doing?
Even decades later, I hanker after being a fashion designer.

Describe your role in the committee and what it involves.
I am a member of the North West CIPR committee.  My role is working with fellow collective to ensure we give our CIPR members value for money and raise the profile of the professional institution.

What do you think makes this committee unique?
Not unique but, through our sub-groups and feedback, we do endeavour to deliver a variety of events both online and in-person to members who are based in a wide geographical area.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting in PR?
Put your hand up for as many diverse projects and campaigns as you can - volunteering opportunities in our professional bodies.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
A long solitary walk to think out my thoughts from the day.
