Meet the Committee – Nicole Kenny
Age: 41
Location: Chorlton, Manchester
What are your interests? What sets your heart on fire?
Friends, family and my three-year-old and our dog Norman, keep life equal parts hilarious and chaotic. Building connections with people, whether it’s friends, colleagues or new faces. Cherished friendships that become family and planning for the future, this always excites me.
How did you get into PR?
I started out in journalism, working on newspapers, then moved to a PR agency. I’ve spent most of my career working in-house and the last 13 years working in the utilities/energy sector.
What PR campaign or project are your particularly proud of?
I love a crisis, so working and developing and growing our crisis comms response was not only loads of fun, but also very rewarding.
Describe your role in the committee and what it involves?
I’ve been on the committee for a number of years. I used to lead on the PRide Awards and now I’m the comms lead, so promoting all the great things the committee is providing to members, from events to our monthly newsletter and channel management. It’s a great role and one that I genuinely love to lead on.
What do you think makes this committee unique?
Without doubt…the people. The people are amazing and I love working and spending time with them.
What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in PR?
Just say yes. Yes to new responsibilities, work and opportunities and also be proactive as much as possible, whether that’s new skills or supporting the wider team/line manager or joining groups/committees.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
There’s usually about an hour at the end of the day to sit down. I’d love to say I spend time reading books or doing exercise, but you’ll probably find me scrolling Instagram or playing Wordle.
