PR Director of the Year 2011: Sarah Pinch

The winner of the inaugural Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and Institute of Directors (IoD) Annual Prize: PR Director of the Year presented in 2011 was Sarah Pinch MCIPR.

Sarah Pinch MCIPR MIoD is Director of her own consultancy, Sarah Pinch Ltd. Sarah has held a number of senior corporate communications roles, including Head of Communications for University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, from May 2008 until January 2013. Sarah started her career at the BBC as a radio journalist, where she stayed for 11 years, latterly as a TV director of BBC One. She left to join an international development agency and set up their PR department, returned to the West Country in 2002 working for Children's Hospice South West and went on to spend five years with the transport company FirstGroup initially in Bristol, then in London as Head of Communications for First Capital Connect.

She has been Chair of the West of England CIPR for the last two years and is a member of the CIPR's National Council. She is a school governor at Bishop Road Primary School, one of the UK's largest and most successful primary schools, which achieved an outstanding Ofsted report in 2011.

On winning her award Sarah Pinch MCIPR said:

It was a real honour to receive the inaugural IoD/CIPR prize. University Hospitals Bristol, as an NHS organisation, is accountable to patients and the wider public and it was humbling to see the part I play in that, recognised in this way. The award has enabled me to speak to many different groups, individuals and organisations about the importance of professional communications advice, particularly why open, honest and reliable communications must be a constant strategic ambition and reality, especially in times of economic challenge, has never been more important.
