The People’s Choice Award

This category is aimed at seeking out an outstanding performance made by an individual who has demonstrated exceptional skill, knowledge and initiative.

The winner of this category will be decided on a vote by members of the CIPR.

Entrants in this category must be CIPR members and could be nominated or self-nominated.

Announced on Monday 3 June at the CIPR Excellence Awards, the winner of the 2013 People's Choice Award is:

  • Andy Green FCIPR – nominated by: Dan Tyte MCIPR

Andy GreenAndy achieved phenomenal results, pushed the boundaries of thinking and doing, going beyond the call of duty by putting back into the profession to help and inspire others. His portfolio career shows another way ahead for practitioners of a similar age. Andy is an unpaid PR Director of Bully-Banks, which, with no budget, successfully fought the banks over mis-selling to small businesses - and secured justice. In the last year Andy launched, on his own initiative, the CIPR Innovation & Creativity Toolkit – a free resource for members, now available globally to sister professional organisations.

  • Lis Lewis-Jones FCIPR – nominated by: Jason MacKenzie MCIPR

Lis Lewis-JonesCEO of Liquid, Lis serves as a Trustee of the CIPR Benevolent Fund, is a former president of the CIPR and was 2011/12 chairman of the PRCA Council. Her roles are testimony to her commitment to improving the industry's reputation, increasing professionalism within PR and championing ethical practice. Lis is an inspiring leader, with a proven ability to grow a consultancy in the toughest climate: in the past three years Liquid's fee income has increased by 395% and the company has grown from one location to offices in Birmingham, Guernsey, Jersey and London. Described by her peers as a "consummate professional" and "completely tireless in her dedication to the industry", Lis is lauded by her clients as "an exceptional ideas generator" and as having "knowledge and experience of reputation management and crisis communications [that] is second to none." Lis juggles her professional commitments with life as a mum of two small boys. Her colleagues cite her dedication, drive and determination to support and encourage others within the industry as key factors why she ought to be recognised as 'The People's Choice'.

  • Rachel Miller MCIPR – nominated by: Jeremy Reynolds MCIPR

Rachel MillerAt a time when internal communication is finally coming to the fore, Rachel demonstrated huge personal drive, bringing together a broad range of communication professionals around the world to share knowledge and expertise and to aid the development of the profession and those within it. She built on her outstanding professional performance and championed internal communication within the PR community and beyond. Rachel writes extensively to educate and encourage others through her own blog, and on Twitter, and is in the top 1% of Kred global influencers. Her efforts to connect internal communicators around the world culminated, in 2012, in the co-founding of The IC Crowd, a global community with now over 1000 individual members.
