Mentoring scheme

What is a mentoring scheme? Put simply, the scheme pairs undergraduates interested in PR with local PR professionals. The aim is to help nurture new entrants into the profession, aiding the transition from student to PR professional.

Much of the CIPR's work is focused on raising the skills level of the profession. The South West Group is keen to help develop the industry's future talent, as well as ensure that students hoping to work in PR have a full understanding of the industry and the skills required. The end result will be graduates who are more employable, benefiting both students and employers.

Right now, we are in the process of redeveloping the way we offer mentoring. Further details on the new offering will be posted here soon.

Can you offer work experience?

Tom Bowden-Green, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Bristol Business School UWE is appealing to CIPR SW members for offers of work experience for students. He has this message for members:

Having worked in a busy PR office for many years, I know how useful an extra pair of hands can be for a week or two – especially during the holiday season in the summer months. However, I also know how tricky it can be for students to identify the right person to request work experience. I'm putting together a database of companies that are able to offer work experience to Bristol Business School undergraduates at UWE. The database will be held by the careers service at the university, offering CV and careers advice before providing appropriate contact details to students.
