Exemptions from units of a degree programme

Below are details of credits awarded by UK universities to CIPR Diploma holders for stated Masters degrees.

Queen Margaret's University, Edinburgh: MSc in Public Relations

The CIPR Diploma will give students exemption from this MSc in respect of its modules in:

  • Critical Reflections on Public Relations (15 credit points)
  • PR Planning (15 credit points)
  • Placement (30 credit points)

Manchester Metropolitan University: (part time/online) MSc Public Relations and Media Management

Practitioners holding a CIPR Diploma are exempt up to 60 credits for this course, and as a result will need to undertake just two units plus the Dissertation to achieve the MSc in Public Relations and Media Management.

Leeds Metropolitan University: MSc in Corporate Communications

The CIPR Diploma will give students exemption from this MSc in respect of its modules in:

  • Ethical Communication Management (20 credit points)
  • Stakeholder Relations (20 credit points)
  • Issues and Crisis Public Relations (20 credit points)

London Metropolitan University: MA in Communications Management

University of Central Lancashire: MA in Strategic Communication

The CIPR Diploma will give students exemption from the Principles of Strategic Communication module (20 credits) of this MA CIPR Diploma holders will need to undertake the following modules:

  • Communication and Technology (20 credits)
  • Rhetoric (20 credits)
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods (20 credits)
  • Internal Communication: Theory, Concepts and Principles (20 credits)
  • Strategic Communication Management (20 credits)
  • Research dissertation (60 credits)

Leeds Trinity and All Saints MA and Post Grad Dip in Public Communication

The CIPR Diploma will give students exemption from the following modules:

  • Strategic Communication (30 credits)
  • Public Sector PR (15 credits)
  • Marketing Communications (15 credits)

In exceptional cases further exemption may be granted on application. Each application will be considered individually. The MA and PG awards were designed jointly by Leeds Trinity and the Central Office of Information and are open only to those working in public communications (e.g. as press/information officers in national/local government or the equivalent such as the National Health Service etc).
