Kate Betts

Kate is the director of Capital B Media, an agency based in Yorkshire that offers media training, PR consultancy and crisis communications advice.

Kate was a journalist for more than 20 years, working mainly in radio, but also in TV as a reporter and video-journalist, and as a print journalist. She started Capital B Media in 2006 after taking voluntary redundancy from the BBC. For the first five years, as well as running the company, Kate continued freelancing for BBC Radio 4, and taught print and broadcast journalism at undergraduate and post-graduate level at the University of Sheffield.

Her media training clients include the NHS, police, fire, local authorities, multinational companies and charities. Kate has also been involved in advising clients over crisis issues, such as the Hillsborough Disaster, Serious Case Reviews and other high profile, potentially damaging stories.

She is a trainer for the Cabinet Office-run Emergency Planning College and has a City & Guilds training qualification.

Capital B Media's PR clients are in the private, public and third sector. In 2017, Capital B Media was shortlisted in three categories in the CIPR PRide Awards.
