Laurel is a Teaching Fellow in PR at Newcastle University and Academic Tutor at the University of Sunderland where she leads the CIPR Diploma course.
Originally from a marketing background, she started her career as a press officer and has worked as an independent public relations practitioner offering training both regionally and nationally since the 1980s. Clients include both commercial and non-commercial organisations, consultancies and their clients, as well as consultancy staff.
She is a PRide and Fresh Awards judge, and a PR examiner for CAM/CIM, so has an extensive awareness of recent award-winning (and not quite winning!) campaigns and activity.
Laurel helps train and educate students and practitioners from Foundation to Masters level. In 1998 she was awarded a CIPR Fellowship in recognition of her work in public relations education. She is also heavily involved with the CIPR North East regional group.
