Networking is vital for success in business and helps you create rewarding professional relationships. It can help you find a new job, win new clients, gain referrals and discover people who will support your ideas. But savvy networkers know that networking is as much about giving as it is taking.
Led by Dr Jane Tonge, Associate Lecturer in Marketing Communications and Public Relations at Manchester Met Business School and a communications consultant, this session will explore the role and importance of networking and help you develop your “soft” communication skills.
Dr Tonge is an expert in business networks and networking, having researched the role and contribution these make to client acquisition and retention within PR consultancies for her PhD. Her research explored business networks for smaller companies and professional services, and the use of diagnostic mapping to help practitioners maximise their personal contact networks. Working with SMEs, she has implemented these techniques and enabled them to capitalise on their networks, gain referrals and grow their business.
Many people assume that PR professionals are naturally extroverted and find networking easy. But it can be tricky, due to a lack of confidence, inexperience or fear of having to awkwardly ‘schmooze’. This session will also explore some of the most common barriers to networking and strategies you can use to overcome them.
If you want to learn about how to make the most of your own network or improve your networking skills, this seminar could give your career a boost.
Come along and hear about:
- A different perspective on networking – which might make it less daunting
- The benefits of networking, especially for PR practitioners – for yourself, your organisation and your clients or team
- How to unlock your network’s potential through diagnostic mapping
- How to identify and retain your most valuable contacts
- Practical tips and ideas for improving your networking skills
This session should be especially helpful for those who are new to networking or who want to find new ways to develop their networks or networking skills.
