CIPR International is delighted to announce that Melissa Fleming, the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications at the United Nations, will give this year’s Maggie Nally Lecture. This event, which is part of the Chartered Institute of Public Relation’s 75th anniversary celebrations, will be held online on 4 October.

The Lecture
The CIPR International Maggie Nally Memorial lecture is one of the most prestigious events held by the Institute. It is in memory of Margaret Nally, who in 1976 became the first female President of the CIPR.

This year the event will be moderated by Crispin Thorold, CIPR International Vice-President and Communications Advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture. In this 75th year of the Institute, CIPR President Steve Shepperson-Smith will also say a few words to welcome our speaker.

Keynote Speaker – Melissa Fleming
Melissa Fleming is one of the world’s most eminent communicators, under her leadership, the UN’s Department for Global Communications is responsible for informing global audiences about the state of the world and engaging them to build support for the organisation’s work and goals. The Department engages in far-reaching efforts to address misinformation, disinformation and hate speech.

Melissa Fleming previously served at the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as Head of Global Communications. Prior to that, she worked in senior communications roles for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
