Trusted, respected, chartered.

Public relations plays a vital role in organisations, communities and society. Yet too often, the profession has not enjoyed the same recognition as other strategic management disciplines.

That is why the CIPR is committed to building a predominantly chartered profession – one where PR practitioners are recognised for their expertise, trusted for their judgement and respected for their contribution to organisational success.

Chartership is the highest level of professional recognition in public relations. It demonstrates your experience, strategic capability, leadership skills and commitment to ethical practice. It signals to employers, clients, colleagues and stakeholders that you meet the highest professional standards and are committed to continuing professional development throughout your career.

1,000 Chartered PR Practitioners. One professional standard.

In 2026, the CIPR celebrated a significant milestone as we welcomed our 1,000th Chartered PR Practitioner.

This achievement reflects a growing commitment across the profession to professional excellence, ethical practice and lifelong learning.

Chartered practitioners work across agencies, in-house teams, public sector organisations and independent practices. Together, they are helping to raise standards, strengthen trust and shape the future of public relations.

To mark this milestone, we invited chartered members to share what Chartership means to them, how it has influenced their careers and why professional standards matter.

The benefits of Chartership

More than 1,000 CIPR members have chosen to achieve chartered status, gaining recognition for their expertise and demonstrating their commitment to the highest professional standards.

For PR consultancies

For PR agencies, Chartership provides a clear point of difference in a competitive marketplace.

A chartered team demonstrates a commitment to professionalism, ethics and continuing professional development. It gives clients confidence that they are working with practitioners who are accountable to recognised standards and committed to delivering strategic value.

Supporting employees to achieve Chartership can also help attract, develop and retain talented communications professionals.

For in-house teams

Whether you lead a communications function or are building your career in-house, Chartership provides recognition of your expertise, professional judgement and commitment to ethical practice.

As communications teams take on an increasingly strategic role, chartered status demonstrates that you have the skills, experience and leadership capability to advise with confidence, influence decision-making and help organisations navigate complex reputational challenges.

Demonstrating your chartered status

Chartered PR Practitioners are entitled to use the designation 'Chart.PR', alongside the Chartered PR Practitioner logo and a range of digital assets.

These recognisable marks demonstrate your professional achievement and signal your commitment to the highest standards of public relations practice.
